Daylight Fireworks for July (a poem)
DAYLIGHT FIREWORKS FOR JULY
by Ériq O Rulo
I always hold on to the nights
We used to share
But those fireworks we made
Texting along
Never shined over the back
Of any hidden place
Never shined to touch your breasts
With incandescent lights
Like a rain of vivid tones
Warming our souls
Because the sunlight didn’t let us
I was a prisoner by law
All of the nights were Inquisition
I was married to the sun
Reluctantly we said goodbye
Fireworks faded
Like fireflies drowning slow
Into the flames of some old secret
That no one could find.
